LSU Shreveport’s Alyssa Garza Selected Among 4 Students Nationwide to Present Peer Education Leadership Project

Alyssa Garza, an LSU Shreveport sociology major, concluded the National Peer Education Leadership Project (PELP) with a presentation at the 2021 NASPA General Assembly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Garza was among four students nationwide accepted to research, present, and potentially implement health and wellness concepts designed for higher education settings.

The Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN) has awarded LSU Shreveport Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Dr. Vonny Salim, $100,000 a year for three years to support her anticancer research project “Elucidation of Plant-Derived Drug Biosynthetic Pathways and Molecular Mechanisms as Anticancer Agents.”

LSUS Psychology Department Earns Awards, Presents Research Projects at 2021 LSPA Conference

LSU Shreveport faculty and students participated in the 2021 Louisiana School Psychological Association (LSPA) Annual Conference in early November. With the highest turnout of five faculty and 16 current students in attendance, they presented seven research projects and two groups earned awards.

Neil, Strachan Names to RRAC All-Tournament Team

Scott Neil and Jake Strachan of LSUS Men’s Soccer were named to the Red River Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, announced by the conference office on Sunday. The selection comes the day after Louisiana Christian and Hosuton-Victoria won the tournament on the women’s and men’s side, respectively.

LSUS Women’s Soccer’s Alexis Hobbs and Madison Salas were named RRAC All-Conference Honorable Mentions, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Juliao Named DPOY, Five Pilots Named RRAC First Team All-Conference

Hugo Juliao was named Red River Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and five Pilots were named First Team All-Conference, announced by the conference office on Wednesday night. The selections come on the eve of the Pilots’ (12-6-1, 7-3-1) semifinal matchup with Houston-Victoria in the RRAC Tournament.

LBRN Awards 6 LSUS Summer Research Grants Supporting Student Projects

The Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN) funded 6 LSUS faculty mentors and students to conduct biomedical research over the summer of 2021, out of a total of 29 in the state. LSUS had the most faculty mentors (6) of any participating campus. Students will present their research at the LBRN Annual meeting in January 2022.

LSUS Noel Memorial Library Showcases “Through Sea and Ice: Oceanic Exploration” Exhibit

The James Smith Noel Collection, housed in LSUS’s Noel Memorial Library, is hosting its latest exhibit, “Through Sea and Ice: Oceanic Exploration.” Visitors can sail the South Seas and explore the Arctic North with famous explorers of the 18th through 20th centuries Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until December 21, 2021.

LSUS Names Miann Ferison Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations

LSUS Athletics has announced that Miann Ferison will be the new Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations. Ferison joins LSUS after working most recently as a freelance marketing consultant. Prior to that she was instrumental in shaping the corporate partnership between LSUS and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in her role as the Area Leader of Marketing. She also held marketing positions for the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks and Kentucky Mavericks.

Laura Beeman Nugent, LSUS' Director of Alumni Affairs, will direct Children of Eden The Musical at Shreveport Little Theatre (SLT).
