HELM: Hands-on Experience & Learning with Micro-Internships

In January 2026, LSUS is working with Parker Dewey to launch a program that will connect students and employers in a new way: HELM, or Hands-on Experience & Learning with Micro-Internships.

HELM provides students with short-term, paid, professional assignments that are like those given to new hires or interns. These projects will allow students to demonstrate skills, explore career paths, and build networks as they seek the right full-time role.

HELM enables employers to building lasting relationships with students at LSU Shreveport and:

  • Deepen assessment of the candidate’s skills without revamping their entire hiring process
  • Differentiate their employer brand to gain a competitive advantage in hiring
  • Build and sustain a pipeline of early-career talent
  • Keep high-potential candidates warm as they complete their degree
  • Connect with students early in their academic careers
