With the exceptions of scholarships and fee exemptions, financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. Need is determined by the following equation:

costs - family contribution = financial need

Several types of financial aid have funding limits.  Funds with funding limits are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, with the exception of the State of Louisiana Go Grant.  Initial awards are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, but any reallocation of funds requires an analysis of the recipients to insure that at least 30% of the awards have been awarded to students over age 24.

How It Works
First, the cost of attending LSUS is calculated. Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, books, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. The amount of financial assistance your family is expected to provide is subtracted from the total cost. The amount of financial assistance expected is established by the federally approved needs analysis. Costs minus family contribution equals financial need.
