SHREVEPORT, LA. - LSUS Women’s Soccer’s Gabriela Roa has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

“Roa has really stepped up this season when called upon,” said LSUS Head Coach Mark Matlock. “She plays with a chip on her shoulder and made some key saves for us against Millsaps in the second half. She is very composed with the ball at her feet and this adds another level of confidence for our back line when dropping the ball to her. Her decision making and distribution were fantastic and she was a key component in our win Friday.”

Roa tied her season high in saves after only playing 45 minutes in the Pilots' 2-0 victory over Millsaps College. Roa entered the match in the second half and more than did her part in helping the Pilots claim their second win of the season. She totaled six saves and kept Millsaps off the board in what was the first shutout of the season for the Pilots.

The Pilots will be back in action on Thursday, September 23 as they open up Red River Athletic Conference play against Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
