We help students successfully transition to college and build a solid foundation for long-term success.

The First-Year Experience (FYE) at LSUS is a comprehensive program dedicated to helping students start strong. FYE introduces students to campus resources, helps them acclimate to campus culture and expectations, engages them in career and major exploration, and supports their development of academic and life skills, all with goals for ensuring students start their college journey with the guidance and tools needed to succeed.

How do we support first-year students?

All first-year students enroll in First-Year Seminar and are assigned a dedicated Peer Leader to help support their transition and success. FYE events and programs aim to ensure students feel prepared, confident, and valued as a member of the LSUS community.

We empower first-gen students to thrive academically and personally as they navigate college life.

Approximately half of LSUS students identify as first-generation, meaning that neither parent nor guardian has completed a four-year college degree. Our dedicated First-Generation Initiatives are designed to empower first-gen students by providing tailored support, helping them overcome unique challenges and achieve both academic success and personal growth.
