WIOA Funding

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federally funded, locally administered program designed to create an employment and training system dedicated to the employers and citizens of Northwest Louisiana. The above courses, as well as many others offered by LSUS, are applicable for WIOA funding. To see if you qualify to receive these benefits, contact the Caddo or Bossier American Job Center.

Health Information Technology

This program will train aspiring healthcare and information technology professionals to be part of the country's emerging health IT industry. Elements of the program include: a comprehensive overview of human body systems, health information terminology; communication in healthcare, privacy laws, ethical issues and the role of HIPPA in the digital electronic health record (EHRs). A clinical externship is also included upon the successful completion of this program.

EKG Technician

This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT - Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. This course will include: important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing.

Sterile Processing Technician

Sterile Processing Technicians perform and participate in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. These Technicians play a critical role in preventing infection by sterilizing, cleaning, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing medical supplies. The central service department of a health care facility is the hub of all activity surrounding supplies and equipment needed for surgery and patient care.

Pharmacy Technician

This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.
