Biography
Dr. Sonja Lester is a dedicated educator, advisor, and workforce development professional with a longstanding commitment to student success and community impact. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, she spent many years with the Louisiana Workforce Commission, where she supported individuals in gaining the skills, resources, and confidence needed to successfully enter and advance in the workforce.
Dr. Lester currently serves as an Academic Advisor, Senior Transitions Specialist, while also teaching as an adjunct instructor at LSUS. In these roles, she works closely with students to navigate their academic journeys, develop clear goals, and prepare for meaningful career pathways beyond graduation.
A proud LSUS alumna, Dr. Lester earned her undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the institution. Her professional work is grounded in a deep passion for educational attainment, community service, and empowering others to reach their full potential. She has been actively engaged in community-based initiatives, consistently working to uplift and support individuals as they transition into sustainable and rewarding careers.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Lester enjoys spending time with family, traveling, writing, and continuing her involvement in initiatives that strengthen and serve the community.
