Disability Services

LSUS is committed to making students with disabilities full participants in its programs, services, and activities through its compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Student Development assists both students with disabilities and the University in accomplishing this goal.

The primary objective of services is to ensure accessibility of the University's programs and services so that students with disabilities persist toward their academic goals. Student Development provides:

  • Intake
  • Assessment of needs on campus
  • Verification of accommodation needs
  • Makes recommendations regarding accommodations

New Student Application               Returning Student Application

Student Development advocates for all students and works as a liaison between students and faculty, as well as with community agencies. Student Development informs the administration of policies and issues relevant to students with disabilities. Student Development also provides training for faculty and staff so the LSUS community gains a greater understanding of their responsibilities and the needs of students with disabilities.

Eligibility Process for New Students

Step 1
Students must complete and submit the application to request accommodations with appropriate supporting documentation attached. Documentation must be attached to this form in order for the request to be processed.

Please do not complete the form until you have your documents ready to attach. Documentation may be attached as a PDF, Word Document, or image (.jpeg, .png), however PDF documents are preferred. If you have a hard copy of the documentation, you can scan it into a PDF. If you do not have a scanner, there are free scanner apps that you can download on a smartphone (i.e., Adobe Scan, Scanner App, Scanner Pro, and CamScanner).

Documentation must include the following:
Academic Accommodations-Psychological/educational evaluation report (evaluation conducted within the last three years) or Medical Provider Form. (Although I.E.P.'s and 504 Plans are helpful, they are generally not accepted in lieu of other documentation.)

Step 2
Students will receive an email to schedule an interview with the Disability Services Coordinator. During the interview, the student and the Coordinator will discuss eligibility for accommodations, rights, and responsibilities.

PLEASE NOTE: Processing accommodations can take up to two weeks.

Step 3
After 24 hours, students log back into the AIM Student Portal to request approved accommodations be applied to each course. (If needed, please contact Disability Services for assistance).

Step 4
Students and faculty will receive Letters of Verification for Accommodation via LSUS email. Students will identify which faculty members they would like notified about their approved academic accommodations.

PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to reapply for approved accommodations each semester you are enrolled. However, you will need to request accommodations for each semester you plan to attend. Submit all requests early to allow time for processing. Please check the system before the start date of classes to ensure that your approved accommodations are applied.

Renewal Process for Returning Students

Step 1
If you are currently enrolled, use your student email login credentials to access the system at https://bachelor.accessiblelearning.com/LSUS/. After logging into your account, the courses you have registered for should appear.

Step 2
Select each course that you would like to add your approved accommodation(s) to. AIM allows you to select which course you want your approved accommodations for as your needs may vary from course to course.

Step 3
Your Letter of Accommodation will be emailed to you and each course instructor for the current semester.

PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to reapply for approved accommodations each semester you are enrolled. If you need a new accommodation you must submit the appropriate documentation and schedule an Intake Interview.

Please check the system before the start date of classes to ensure that your approved accommodations are applied.
