Students report more satisfaction, better adjustment, and improved grades when they also feel knowledgeable of and accepted on the University campus. LSUS strives to inform students on campus happenings and regulations, as well as have students feel apart of the University experience. In part, this is accomplished through the Freshman Focus Mentoring Program.
Freshman Focus
Freshman Focus is a mentoring program for first-time freshmen. It is designed to assist the first-year student in his/her adjustment to the college environment. Each participating student is assigned a student mentor, who will follow them through the first-year and provide them with friendship, guidance with study strategies, suggestions for coping with college stressors, and assistance with course selection.
Freshman Focus is open to ANY first-year student wanting to ease their transition to college.
Students will meet with their mentor on three occasions in the fall of their freshman year and then twice during the following spring term. While there are no specific deadlines, students are encouraged to attend the fall meetings accodrding to the following guidelines as these times are advantageous to the student in that they are informed about campus activities and resources in a timely manner and when it would most benefit.
Recommended guidelines for Fall 2007 appointments are:
- First appointment completed before Friday, September 28
- Second appointment completed before Friday, October 26
- Third appointment completed before Friday, November 30
