| For those of you that are on the Campus in the evening hours, you may notice something new with the University Police. We are experimenting with using bicycles on patrol. At the present time, Officer Leonard Bonnette and Officer Alvin Bush are riding bicycles while patrolling our campus. Officer Bonnette commanded the bicycle patrol for the Shreveport Police Department before coming to work for the LSUS POLICE DEPARTMENT.
One of our areas of concern deals with students and faculty walking around on campus while changing classes or returning to their vehicles, in the evening hours. The bicycles will offer more flexibility for the Officers in areas that the police vehicles will not reach. Though the Officers do walk the campus, we do get concerned if an emergency call comes in and the Officer must return to his police unit to respond to that call.We will see if this method of patrol offers some benefits in our continuing effort to make the campus as safe as we can. |
