The student majoring in Fine Arts must complete a minimum of 60 semester hours of art that includes 33 hours of core requirements and 27 hours of elective work at the 300 level or above. The curriculum includes a selection of courses that leads to a better understanding of the role of art in human history; a basic knowledge of visual principles, media, and techniques utilized in studio practices; and ample electives in art to enable the student, with faculty guidance, to select a studio area for advanced creative work. It should be understood that the degree offered is a BA degree in Fine Arts. In addition to the core curriculum, students wanting to concentrate in a specific area should select their 27 hours of elective work (300 level or above) from one of the following areas of concentration:
Core Curriculum: 100, 150, 180, 200, 240, 241, 250, 270, 281, 282, and 441.
Drawing and Painting: Primary courses are 300, 302, 334, 369, 381, 481, and 489. Suggested additional courses are 330, 331, 350, 369, 387, 388, 430, 440, and 495.
Graphic Design: Primary courses are 311, 312, 313, 314, 359, and 414. Suggested additional courses are 300, 302, 331, 350, 387, 388, 440, 495, and 499.
Printmaking: Primary courses are 330, 331, 334, and 430. Suggested additional courses are 300, 302, 350, 359, 369, 381, 440, 489, and 495.
Three hours of coursework at the 300 or above level in
one subject area outside fine arts are required. The student should be
aware that the Department of Fine Arts may retain any work written or created
as a course requirement. Students with a 3.5 fine arts grade point average
are invited to exhibit their work during the summer of their senior year.

Fine Arts Minor:
The student choosing to minor in Fine Arts must earn 21 hours consisting
of 6 hours of FA 100 and FA 150, 6 hours of FA electives and 9 hours of
FA electives 300+.
