Pass - No Credit Information

We recognize that for some students the sudden transition from face-to-face classes to online instruction as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has altered your student experience and created anxieties. To minimize a potential adverse effect on your academic progress, LSUS is providing a one-time "Pass/No-Credit" alternative grade option to students originally enrolled in one or more face-to-face classes and who were required to transition to the online environment. It is important to note that this option is not available to students enrolled in online classes from the beginning of the Spring or for students enrolled in accelerated, online programs. Students who began in traditional face to face classes will receive an email with a DocuSign document that will allow you to select, on a class by class basis, a "Pass/No Credit" option rather than a traditional letter grade.

For each class in which students make the selection of "Pass/No Credit", they will receive a "Pass" or "No Credit" instead of a letter grade. Earning a "P" will earn academic credit. Neither the "Pass" or "No Credit" will be included in the calculation of your grade point average.

Guidelines for the "Pass/No Credit" option for Spring 2020 include:

  • A one-time option applies only to classes that were originally held face to face. It does not apply to any course that originated as an online course.
  • The selection of the "Pass/No Credit" option can be selected on a class by class basis for each class enrolled, and encompasses undergraduate, face-to-face courses or labs for the Spring 2020 semester.
  • A deadline of April 22, 2020 to make a selection.

For Spring 2020, a "Pass" grade will satisfy all LSUS undergraduate program requirements requiring a D or better. Courses taken as "Pass/No Credit" this semester will not count against current limits on the number of "P/NC" courses as per University academic regulations. Courses not selected for the Pass/No Credit option will receive a traditional letter grade.

If the current pandemic and the transition to the online environment has disrupted your academic progress, you may want to consider the "Pass/No Credit" option; however, there are potential academic and financial implications of selecting the "P/NC" option. Students will be required to certify they understand the implications of this selection. If you are unsure of how to move forward, please contact your Academic Advisor or email for assistance. We encourage you to visit the Frequently Asked Questions section below for further information.

There is no option to reverse your decision, regardless of your academic performance, so please be sure to gather information, consider your decision thoughtfully, and make your selection by April 22.
