Mass Communications Majors Hold Orientation to Bring In Fall Semester

September 02, 2016

Mass communications majors were welcomed to the fall semester at LSUS with an orientation get-together and buffet lunch with door prizes on Friday, August 26.

Seniors Bianca Stakes, Emily Wright, and Peter O'Neil helped nearly twenty transfer students feel at home on the third floor of Bronson Hall and answered questions about the various media concentrations. Everyone had the opportunity to tour all classrooms, labs, and the MCOM lounge where they can study, use touchscreen PCs, and have meetings at any time. Fall activities include publishing the weekly online Almagest/student news, and upcoming meetings of the honor society and the student public relations organization.

"This is all new to me," said Thomas Wiltheis, a sophomore transfer student in public relations. "There sure is a lot going on and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Journalism students will be working on a fall magazine with Devin White, publisher of SB Magazine, which will be revealed at an evening event in the Noel Library on November 15. Scholarship information for the Shreveport Journalism Foundation was shared along with encouragement to make the most of the college experience by participating in a variety of student publications and clubs.
