LSUS Men’s Basketball Program is Encouraging Pilot Pride with Two New Scholarships

October 19, 2016

Get ready to rock-n-roll and show off your Pilot pride with two new scholarships from the men's basketball program.

Two lucky students will have the opportunity to be awarded $500 by attending the basketball games and supporting our Pilot athletes.

"The scholarships were created in order to increase student participation at our home games," said Kyle Blankenship, the head coach for men's basketball. "We want to enhance the atmosphere at The Dock and give our team a true home court advantage. We need our students here at LSUS to come ‘Rock the Dock' this year, and we are hoping that these scholarships will give them a little extra incentive to come and support our guys this season!"

There are two ways for students to win one of the $500 scholarships: being the biggest fan and attending the games.

Here's how it works:

"$500 will be awarded to the student that myself and our athletics staff deems to be the best student fan," Coach Blankenship said. "We will select the student who we believe displayed the best fandom over the course of our entire home schedule. This includes attending as many games as possible and being a super fan! Face/body paint, unique t-shirts, signs and leading chants is strongly encouraged."

"The other $500 will be a drawing at the end of the season where all students who have attended at least one game will have a chance to win the scholarship," Coach Blankenship said. "Each student who attends a home game will be automatically entered into the end-of-season drawing for the other $500 scholarship. They will receive one raffle ticket per game attended. The more games they come to, the greater their odds will be to win at the end of the year."

The first home game will be at The Dock, the gym in the Health and Physical Education building, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. where the LSUS Pilots will face-off against St. Gregory's Cavaliers. Thirteen additional home games will follow.

The scholarship awards will be posted to the students' accounts during the spring 2017 semester following the conclusion of the season at the end of February.
