LSUS Master of Health Administration Student Publishes in the American Journal of Medicine

SHREVEPORT, LA- LSUS and the College of Business has announced that Master of Health Administration Program (MHA) student, Dr. Scott Yates, MBA, MS, FACP, FACPE, has published an article in the American Journal of Medicine (2019). Dr. Yates originally wrote the article "Physician Stress and Burnout," as an assignment in Dr. Justin Lord's Healthcare Organizational Behavior class. After the completion of the class, Dr. Yates submitted his article to the American Journal of Medicine, and it was accepted for publication.

Dr. Yates joined the MHA Program at LSUS in the Spring of 2019. He is expected to graduate from LSUS with his MHA degree in December 2019. His work ethic and commitment to excellence is evident in his 4.0 GPA as well as his ongoing pursuit of knowledge and expertise. According to Elrod Healthcare Administration Program Assistant Professor, Dr. Justin Lord, "The article was all Dr. Yates' effort and work. His work exemplifies what great students we have in the MHA Program and here at LSUS."

Dr. Yates' article discusses the fact that tens (or hundreds) of thousands of Americans die each year as a result of preventable medical errors. He also states that changes in the practice and business of medicine have caused some to question whether burnout among physicians and other healthcare providers may adversely affect patient outcomes. "Burnout is a system problem, not an individual disease," Dr. Yates said. "Bad public policy has accelerated physician burnout by diverting physician time from caring for patients to checking bureaucratic boxes."

LSUS, the College of Business, and the Elrod Healthcare Administration Program would like to congratulate Dr. Scott Yates on this tremendous accomplishment. Dr. Yates is the embodiment of a successful online student who is a leader in the classroom as well in his profession. Dr. Yates' article may be accessed here:
