LSUS Department of Education Hosts Workshop for Local Educators

January 30, 2018

LSUS continues to strengthen partnerships with area K-12 districts as well as counterparts in other institutions by bringing a Train-the-Trainer workshop to the LSUS campus. On January 25-26, TWH Co-Teaching presented a two-day Train-the-Trainer workshop in the LSUS University Center.

TWH provides professional development for university faculty and school based personnel. A major focus of TWH Co-Teaching is assisting universities and their school partners in creating and implementing a co-teaching model of student teaching. Participants in this two-day Co-Teaching Train-the-Trainer workshop received in-depth knowledge on co-teaching in student teaching. They identified key personnel needed for successful implementation, learned ways to secure university and district buy-in, discovered the essentials of a co-teaching workshop, gained knowledge of co- teaching and co-planning strategies, and identified ways to support university supervisors.

Participants receive materials, activities and handouts along with PowerPoint presentations that can be used and/or modified to fit the institution. Participants who completed both days of training are licensed to use the copyrighted materials at their home institution. Colleges, universities and their school partners participated as a team and discussed adaptations, modifications, changes, and implications in their own program.

Approximately 40 participants from Caddo Parish Schools, Bossier Parish Schools, and area teacher preparation programs participated in the workshop. "I thought we had a great turnout for the workshop," said Dr. Jesse Sealey, Chair for the Department of Education at LSUS. "It is exciting to be able to get together with our K-12 partners as well as other teacher preparation providers. It gives us an opportunity to network and identify ways to make our program even better."
