LSUS Completes Acquisition of Campus Student Housing

April 06, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

4/6/2020

University ApartmentsSHREVEPORT, LA- LSU Shreveport has completed its acquisition of the student housing apartment complex located beside the university campus.

The complex, formerly known as University Court Apartments, has been renamed Pilots Pointe Apartments. The acquisition will allow LSUS to make much-needed improvements and repairs and create a new management structure that better aligns with the needs of LSUS students.

Campus Living, a private company based in Australia, managed the apartments through a contract with LSUS. In September, LSUS administrators started negotiations to buy out the contract and assume direct control of the complex. LSUS assumed control of Pilot Pointe Apartments effective March 26.

"We are extremely excited that we have completed the acquisition. There were many people helping to make it happen. I'm grateful to the LSU System, particularly Patrick Martin, assistant vice president, Real Estate, Public Partnerships, & Compliance, for helping us navigate the process," said Barbie Cannon, vice president for business affairs at LSUS. "There's a lot of work to be done in the coming months, but having operational control means that we can begin to provide the best experience for our students living on campus."

Now that the university has acquired the apartments, RISE Real Estate will assume day-to-day management of the complex. RISE, in conjunction with the LSUS Office of Business Affairs and the LSUS Information Technology Department, will start assessing renovation and infrastructure needs. The LSUS Office of Student Services will work with RISE to start resident programming for students living in the apartments.

"The RISE team has been amazing to work with leading up to the acquisition," said Cannon. "Their expertise and professionalism in the planning phases points to a fruitful and student-focused partnership as we move forward with managing and upgrading the complex."

RISE will provide a renovation schedule to tenants in the coming weeks - but anyone can follow our progress on social media. For day-to-day updates on the new team, operations and upgrades to Pilots Pointe Apartments, follow @PilotsPointe on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
