LSUS Bass Team Headed to Nationals

August 03, 2017

LSUS is pleased to announce that the bass team will be competing at nationals in the Carhartt College Series on August 10-12th.The competition will be held on Lake Bemidji in Minnesota. The Carhartt College Series is considered to be one of the most prestigious college series.

“It ultimately gives college anglers the chance to make it to the biggest stage in bass fishing, The Bassmaster Classic”, Jared Rascoe said. “Every year one college angler is sent to the classic and just this year, a former college angler, Jordan Lee, won the 2017 bassmaster classic on Lake Conroe.”

With the importance of bass fishing in the Arklatex, it is an honor for LSUS’ very own bass team to gain recognition. This year marks the third year that the bass team has gone to nationals. “It feels amazing to go again this year. To be able to go for the third year in a row is definitely something I'm proud of,” JP Kimbrough said. In addition to nationals, they ranked number one. Winning this competition would provide the team the opportunity to fish in the classic bracket for the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic.

The bass team is currently ranked number 17 in the nation, while Kimbrough and Rascoe are ranked number six. We look forward to seeing Kimbrough and Rascoe having a successful competition at nationals next week.
