LSUS Alumni Association Announces 2019 Award Winners at Annual Awards Dinner

The 2019 award winners were honored June 22 at the LSUS Alumni Association's Annual Awards Dinner in the LSUS University Center Ballroom. Alumni and their guests enjoyed dinner by Bistro To Go, networking and numerous door prizes. Chancellor Larry Clark presented the keynote address.

Awards were presented by the 2019 Alumni Board Awards Committee: The Honorable Frances Pitman, Chair; Gerald Badgley, M.Ed.; Kenneth Betzing, PA-C; Chris Fultz, PT, DPT; Michael Gould, CPA; and Barzanna White, Ph.D.

Retiring Alumni Board Directors were also honored: The Honorable Frances Pitman and Jerome Danzell, M.D.

The 2019-20 Board of Directors was formally elected by the membership. New directors joining the group July 1 are: Kathryn M. Ferguson, M.Ed and Ravinda H. Goel, M.D.

The 2019-19 Officers are President, Jaclyn Litton-Briery; Vice President, Keith Perkins, CPA; Treasurer, Jazmin Jernigan, MBA; and Secretary, Kenneth Betzing, PA-C.

Returning Directors for 2019-19 are: Gerald Badgley, M.Ed.; Christopher Fultz, DPT; Michael Gould, CPA; Patrick Harrington, JD; Victor Mainiero, M.Ed.; Marie Vazquez Morgan, PT, Ph.D.; Tiffany Sandifer, M.A.; Rex Tamplin, CPA; and Barzanna White, Ph.D.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Cheryl H. White, Ph.D. received the 2019 LSU Shreveport Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is given annually by the LSUS Alumni Association to one alumni leader who has made a significant contribution of time, treasure and talents to the university, and who is using his or her degrees in a significant manner. Dr. White received a Bachelor of Criminal Justice from LSUS in 1981, an MA in History from Louisiana Tech University, and a Ph.D. in History and Theology from Northwest University (U.K.). She is married to Paul S. White. They have two sons, Michael and Christopher, and two granddaughters, Addison and Chloe.

Dr. White serves as Professor of History and the Hubert Humphreys Endowed Professor of History at LSU Shreveport. Other honors include:

  • 22 years of academic service at LSUS
  • Eight-time recipient of the LSUS Professor of the Year Award
  • Outstanding Teaching and Service Award, LSUS College of Arts and Sciences
  • Board of Directors, Oakland Cemetery Preservation Society, 2013 to present
  • Board of Directors, Shreveport Little Theater, 2010-2014
  • Historic Preservation Commission, City of Shreveport, 2019

Circle of Excellence Awards for Leadership and Professionalism

William R. "Bill" Altimus
Bachelor of General Studies, 1977
Altimus is the Bossier Parish Police Jury Administrator.

  • Elected and appointed to the Bossier Parish Policy Jury for 22 years
  • Former Region 4 Board Member of the Louisiana Police Jury Association
  • Board of Directors - Barksdale Forward, Military Affairs Council (MAC) and the Northwest Council of Governments (NLCOG)
  • Vice Chair of the Transit-Rail Subcommittee of the National Association of County Officials (NACO)
  • Member of the Governing Board of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum
  • Past President and current Vice President of Properties of the Norwela Council, BSA

Kathryn M. Ferguson, M.Ed.

Ferguson is the Social Studies Teacher and Department Chair at Youree Drive Middle AP Magnet School. She has served Caddo Parish Schools for 18 years.

McFadden is the General Manager and Broker of Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets for The Woodmont Company.
