LSU Shreveport offers English as a Second Language Program to the Shreveport/Bossier City Community

January 11, 2016

LSU Shreveport has partnered with The Language Company to offer intensive English as a Second Language instruction to Northwest Louisiana.  The Language Company is a globally-minded organization that provides English as a Second Language instruction and cultural opportunities to individuals who are seeking educational, professional and personal enrichment. Offering its students a private, focused English program on the LSUS campus, The Language Company helps international students improve their English skills and offer opportunities to participate in the culture of the Shreveport-Bossier area.  International Students who meet all conditions of admission to LSUS except for their English proficiency may enroll in one of the many graduate or undergraduate programs at LSUS after they complete Level Nine coursework from The Language Company.

The students will be taught by skilled, knowledgeable, and passionate instructors and will be mentored by academic counselors who will guide them in their steps to learning the language and attending college after graduating from The Language Company. Students participating in the program receive instruction both formally in the classroom and informally when in conversation with students outside of the classroom. Teachers are also present on sight-seeing tours and other events to aid in the understanding of the U.S. to international students.

“The Language Company- Louisiana is excited to be joining the LSUS family and the Shreveport-Bossier Community. We will work together within our educational partnership for international student success. LSUS brings this grassroots approach to all levels of the university by expanding the international student diversity with the unique cultural experiences that only Louisiana can provide,” said Rob Hatfield, Center Director for The Language Company- Louisiana.

The program will begin operation on February 1st, 2016 located in the Business Education Building, Room 119 on the LSUS campus.  “This ESL program will allow us to reach out to international students and provide them with a quality-based education, but even more importantly, it will enable us to contribute to the rich cultural diversity of the Northwest Louisiana community,” said LSUS Provost, Dr. John S. Vassar.
