SHREVEPORT, LA-LSUS was recently granted accreditation for its Master's in Counseling program from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational programs (CACREP). The process involves a peer review system to ensure the quality and educational rigor of the program.

LSUS has spent many years earning the accreditation, hiring faculty with accreditation qualifications and completing a self-study showcasing what the program has to offer. After the over 1,000-page self-study was approved, a site team interviewed administration, faculty, students, and alumni regarding the program. The team suggested improvements which faculty had 30 days to implement. The program received accreditation as a "Clinical Mental Health Program" in July during the semiannual voting process.

"Research shows CACREP graduates perform better on the National Counselor exam," said Dr. Meredith Nelson, Director of the Master's in Counseling program. "It ensures that what is learned in the program exceeds national standards. With this, graduates are surely prepared to enter their professional practice."

LSUS is continuing to set high standards in education and developing quality skills for students. This accreditation provides assurance to parents and students about the value of this degree program, and the marketability of its graduates as they enter the workforce.
