Leadership Education and Development (LEAD)

Program Eligibility and Application Process

The LEAD Minor is open to ALL undergraduate students at LSU-Shreveport. As leadership transcends academic fields, the practical knowledge, skills, and abilities developed in this minor are applicable acoss a wide variety of industry sectors including business, non-profits, military and law enforcement organizations, government, healthcare, community organizations, and the arts. The LEAD minor is intended to serve all students as they prepare to enter the workforce, regardless of academic major or discipline.

To apply for the LEAD minor, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be in good academic standing at LSUS with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Those students with GPA's between 2.0 and 2.5 may be considered upon appeal to the Chair of the Department of Leadership Studies.
  • Submit an application through the Admissions Office. 

The LEAD minor is comprised of two components with a combined total of 21 credit hours:

Leadership core courses - 12 credit hours
Approved Electives - 9 credit hours

Students are encouraged to select electives from the host of disciplines offered across the LSU-Shreveport campus. These electives are intended to support the core Leadership curriculum while allowing students to expand professional development and knowledge within their academic field. The Department of Leadership Studies is commited to working with departments throughout the univesrity in identifying electives that will satisfy the requirements of the minor while supporting the needs of their students.
