The Department of Leadership Studies at Louisiana State University Shreveport offers the Doctorate in Leadership Studies. This 100% online doctoral program is the first of its kind to be offered from the Shreveport campus.

The Leadership Studies Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) is an interdisciplinary degree program with the primary purpose of enhancing leadership potential among leaders in a wide range of industries including the Healthcare, Industry, Law Enforcement, Education, Science, Arts, and Military professions.


The Leadership Studies program fosters scholarly inquiry and a working understanding of critical components of leadership. Throughout the program, students explore: leadership theory focusing on practical data driven results; understanding group dynamics and motivation; the mentoring and coaching process for cultivating future leaders; building efficient learning and development opportunities; the use of power, politics, and influence in organizations; and data collection, analysis, and research techniques to inform practice. The program offers three concentrations which include:

  • Leadership Studies - Admission in Fall 2020
  • Law Enforcement Leadership - Admission in Spring 2020
  • Military Leadership - Admission in Spring 2020

The Leadership Studies program provides working professionals with relevant and practical research skills to utilize leadership theories for transformational change, and knowledge to identify and solve problems of practice through collaboration with key stakeholders. Students will be given the opportunity to develop these attributes through engaging courses, research endeavors, and interactive networking experiences.


The Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies is designed to accommodate working professionals while also providing an intensive and rigourous academic experience.

  • As a 100% Online program, courses are available from anywhere in the world.
  • Courses are offered in an accelerated format, year round, at one course per 7-week session.
  • Program may be completed in as few as 3 years.
  • Financial Aid is available for qualifying students.
  • Culminating research may be conducted as a Group Research Project or individually as a Dissertation.
  • Opportunities to engage in faculty driven research projects for publication and presentation are encouraged.


The Leadership Studies Doctoral Program may be completed in 63 credit hours with 3 core components of the Program of Study:

  • Core courses: 39 semester hours of 100% Online courses
  • Concentration courses: 12 semester hours of 100% Online Courses
  • Research and Dissertation Courses: minimum of 12 semester hours of 100% Online courses
