Hattiesburg, MS- Valerie Huizar, a senior guard from San Antonio, Texas, was named to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference 2009-2010 Women’s Basketball Pre-Season All Conference Team earlier today.
Huizar helped lead the Lady Pilots to their best season in school history last year as she led the team with 11.7 points per game as LSUS finished the season with a record of 27-6 and 15-3 in the GCAC and their first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
Huizar was a four year letter winner in basketball at O’Connor High School in San Antonio where she was named to the 1st Team All District, Northside All Tournament Team and the Northeast All Tournament Team. She also lettered one season in softball.
Academically, Huizar was a member of the National Honor Society and also wrote a weekly column for the high school sports website at O’Connor High School. She is currently majoring in Elementary and Secondary Health with an emphasis in Physical Education.
Previously to LSUS, Huizar played to season at Lon Morris College, a junior college in Jacksonville, Texas.
Huizar is honored to have been named to the All GCAC Team, “It is an honor to be considered with the top athletes in our conference. My goal this season is for us to win conference, the conference tournament and the National Tournament.”
The LSUS Lady Pilots will begin the 2009-2010 season at The Dock against Concordia College-Selma, with the tip off at 5:30 p.m.
