| A number of long-term hydrological and ecological monitoring programs are underway. A state of the art remotely accessed surface and groundwater monitoring and sampling system has been developed and is being expanded. In addition to a comprehensive floristics study, a complete inventory of amphibians and reptiles is ongoing at the park. Turtles are being marked with passively integrated transponders so that population and life history characteristics can be tracked over the long-term. Aspects of growth, reproduction, and community structure may provide important information regarding environmental change. Seasonal fluctuation in water bird and raptor abundance at the wetland is being monitored. This information will provide baseline data applicable to environmental change models. Additional studies involving the herpetological and fish communities are being planned. A long-term study of salt tolerant plants to flood pulse inundation has been initiated. Current collaborations include the following organizations: USGS National Wetlands Center, Louisiana Ag Center, Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery, Northwestern State University, Caddo Lake Institute, LSU Health Medical Sciences Center-Shreveport, LSU Coastal Studies Institute, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the USDA.
