Honor Societies

Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

MISSION: To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.

MEMBERSHIP & ELIGIBILITY:Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only. Those elected to membership include the top 7.5 percent of second-term juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors and graduates. Faculty, professional staff and alumni also may qualify.

ACTIVITIES:

Awards & Grants - The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi's ongoing commitment to excellence is reflected in its awards and grants programs. More than $1 million is awarded each biennium to outstanding students and members through the Society's various awards competitions:

  • Fellowships
  • Dissertation Fellowships
  • Study Abroad
  • Literacy
  • Love of Learning
  • Phi Kappa Phi Scholar
  • Phi Kappa Phi Artist
  • Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service Award

Fellowships

  • Awarded to members entering their first year of graduate or professional study
  • 6 Fellowships of $15,000 awarded each year
  • 51 Fellowships of $5,000 awarded each year

Dissertation Fellowships

  • Awarded to members in the dissertation writing stage of doctoral study
  • 2 Fellowships of $10,000 awarded each year

Literacy

  • Initiated in 2003 to mobilize members and resources of Phi Kappa Phi and the higher education community to champion literacy initiatives
  • Grants of up to $2,500 awarded each year

Love of Learning

  • Helps fund post-baccalaureate studies and/or career development for active Phi Kappa Phi members to include: graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development, and travel.
  • 160 awards of $500 given each year
