The physics section of the Department of Chemistry and Physics is doing student research in electronics and robot design headed by Gary R. Boucher, Associate Professor, and member of the Department since 1987.
This research involves two separate robotic designs. The first project undertaken was a ground-based robot "Wheeled Hybrid Electrically Engineered Linear Motion Apparatus" or WHEELMA. The newest yet unnamed project is a flying robotic platform capable of lifting over 50 pounds of payload and hovering in a stable manner via automatic control systems. Both robots are to be equipped with television cameras and can be remotely controlled from a ground-based control point. |
