Mark and Vicki Clark opened Moxie Java, a gourmet coffee shop in Bossier City, in April 2004, after SBDC Director Peggy Connor helped estimate startup costs. A year, later Moxie Java expanded with a second location on Barksdale Air Force Base.
Moxie Java operates under a brand licensing agreement to sell the popular Boise, Idaho-based coffee brand. The coffee house also serves cold drinks, sandwiches and desserts and features wireless Internet.
Mark Clark is a B52 pilot stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. The couple was seeking a small business opportunity locally as he approached retirement from the military.
Connor helped the Clarks with a business plan, cash flow projections and other startup issues. Moxie Java received a loan guaranteed by the Small Business Administration.
"She was very thorough with the startup cost analysis. She made you think about every detail to the point she almost made us angry at times," Mark Clark said. "But it paid off, because we came within $1,000 of the startup costs we estimated and we have already referred three people to her."
Moxie Java is located at 2001 Airline Drive, Suite 90 next to next to Blockbuster Video and across from Pierre Bossier Mall.
