The Chair of the LSUS Quality Enhancement
Plan Committee, chosen during the 2003 spring semester, attended the
reaccredidation
orientation meeting in June 2003. Shortly thereafter, a 12 member committee
was appointed and began work. To find a focus for this QEP, the committee,
after reviewing the results of various reports and the university
SWOT analyses, identified three important concerns. The committee then conducted
an email poll in fall 2003, asking the campus to rank these three in
order of importance, and the results overwhelmingly indicated a desire
to improve the personal attention given to students. Consideration
of the SACS/COC guidelines for the QEP led the committee to settle on
academic
advising, so the focus of the LSUS Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is “enhancing
student learning by improving advising.”
The QEP Committee has been meeting twice a month since September 2003
exploring initiatives that might be implemented as part of this plan.
The focus does NOT imply that LSUS does a poor job of advising, but
simply recognizes that there is room for improvement. The committee
is now in the process of determining which methods to employ and which
measures to track. The committee will make these decisions early this
fall and write the plan for submission in early 2005.
The
documents below establish a clear representation of efforts taking
place to define and implement
the University Quality Enhancement Plan.
