Success Workshops

Many students discover the need to adjust their study strategies and life management skills to the college setting. Workshops are offered each semester to assist in this adjustment and move students toward their academic goals.  

 

JANUARY 2015

Assess Your Learning: All successful students use strategies for managing their time, taking notes, organizing reading material and preparing for exams. Do you know how to use learning strategies for your success? Join us for this workshop which will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Wednesday, January 21st at 11am

•         Thursday, January 22nd at 2pm

  

Write an Effective Resume: Writing a resume can seem like an overwhelming task but a well-written resume is an essential for a successful job search. This workshop will teach you how to write a professional and effective resume. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, January 28th at 11am

•         Tuesday, January 29th at 3pm

 

Time Management: This workshop will focus on effective techniques to manage time through setting priorities and scheduling. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, January 28th at 11am

•         Thursday, January 29th at 2pm

FEBRUARY 2015 

Ace that Interview: Preparation is crucial to a successful interview. Students will learn how to prepare for interviews and seal the deal on interview day. We will also discuss professional networking. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, February 2nd at 11am

•         Tuesday, February 3rd at 3pm

 

Listening & Note taking: Students will learn active listening and purposeful note taking strategies. These strategies are designed to improve recall from lectures and assist in exam preparation. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, February 4th at 11am

•         Thursday, February 5th at 2pm

 

Write an Effective Cover Letter: Show the employer they need to hire you! Writing a cover letter can seem overwhelming, but it is a necessity when applying for jobs. This workshop will cover how to write a cover letter to impress employers and help sell yourself through this glimpse of who you are as a candidate. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Monday, February 9th at 11am

•         Tuesday, February 10th at 3pm

  

The Study Cycle: a plan for improving learning: Do you ever study, but then not do well on the exam? Learning and retention improves with a continuous cycle of studying; come learn how! The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, February 11th at 11am

•         Thursday, February 12th at 2pm

Overcoming Procrastination:  
Procrastination temporarily relieves stress, but also has negative consequences.  Learn how to understand the process and change the habit of procrastination.  The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215, on:

  • Wednesday, February 18th at 11am
  • Thursday, February 19th at 2pm

Is Grad School Right for Me?: Considering grad school? The decision to attend graduate school is huge. This workshop will cover the steps in determining whether graduate school is right for you and some ways to help you prepare for the application process. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Monday, February 23rd at 11am

•         Tuesday, Febraury 24th at 3pm

  

Coping with Test Anxiety: Anxiety often interferes with our ability to perform on exams. The workshop will focus on adjusting thoughts and behaviors to reduce test anxiety.  The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Wednesday, February 25th at 11am

•         Thursday, February 26th at 2pm

MARCH 2015 

Online Professional Image: What is your online image? Is it professional? It is important to consider your use of social media as you move from college to career. This workshop will examine how to evaluate and change your online image for the work place. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Monday, March 2nd at 11am

•         Tuesday, March 3rd at 3pm

Reduce Your Stress!:  Do you feel stressed out? Overwhelmed with living? Learn how mindfulness is a way to cope with the stresses of everyday life and improve satisfaction. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, March 4th at 11am

•         Thursday, March 5th at 2pm

  

Why You Need an Internship: An internship provides you with practical work experience in your chosen field and will better prepare you for the professional job search. This workshop will help you explore your opportunities and discuss the benefits of an internship and other experiential education. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Monday, March 9th at 11am

•         Tuesday, March 10th at 3pm

  

Maintaining Motivation:  Sometimes college students lose motivation, which can lead to poor academic and personal success.  This workshop focuses on how to get motivated and how to stay motivated. We will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, March 11th at 11am

•         Thursday, March 12th at 2pm

Choosing a Major/Career: Need help choosing a major or career? This workshop will cover steps in determining a major or career and how Career Services can help throughout the process.   The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Monday, March 16th at 11am

•         Tuesday, March 17th at 3pm

Building Confidence: Confident people tend to be more successful, healthy, and satisfied. Join us to learn techniques designed to improve confidence and academic progress by combating self-defeating behaviors/doubt and providing direction. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

·         Wednesday, March 18th at 11am

·         Thursday, March 19th at 2pm

Informational Interviews: Informational interviewing is a type of networking designed to give you additional information about a specific occupation. Students will learn how to conduct an informational interview during the workshop. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building on:

•         Tuesday, April 14th at 3pm
