Success Workshops

Many students discover the need to adjust their study strategies and life management skills to the college setting. Workshops are offered each semester to assist in this adjustment and move students toward their academic goals.  

 

SEPTEMBER 2014

Assess Your Learning: All successful students use strategies for managing their time, taking notes, organizing reading material and preparing for exams. Do you know how to use learning strategies for your success? Join us for this workshop which will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Wednesday, September 3rd at Common Hour

•         Thursday, September 4th at 3:30pm

  

Write an Effective Resume: Writing a resume can seem like an overwhelming task but a well-written resume is an essential for a successful job search. This workshop will teach you how to write a professional and effective resume. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, September 8th  at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, September 9th at 3pm

 

Time Management: This workshop will focus on effective techniques to manage time through setting priorities and scheduling. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, September 10th at Common Hour

•         Thursday, September 11th at 3:30pm

  

Ace that Interview: Preparation is crucial to a successful interview. Students will learn how to prepare for interviews and seal the deal on interview day. We will also discuss professional networking. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, September 15th  at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, September 16th at 3pm

 

Listening & Note taking: Students will learn active listening and purposeful note taking strategies. These strategies are designed to improve recall from lectures and assist in exam preparation. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, September 17th at Common Hour

•         Thursday, September 18th at 3:30pm

 

Write an Effective Cover Letter: Show the employer they need to hire you! Writing a cover letter can seem overwhelming, but it is a necessity when applying for jobs. This workshop will cover how to write a cover letter to impress employers and help sell yourself through this glimpse of who you are as a candidate. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, September 22nd  at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, September 23rd at 3pm

  

Résumé Walk-ins: Need help on your résumé? Join us for walk-in résumé reviews. No need for an appointment during those times - Just stop by and our staff will look over your résumé and provide you advice! Walk-ins will be held in the UC Red River Room on:

•         Wednesday, September 24th from 10:30am-2:30pm

•         Thursday, September 25th from 10:30am-2:30pm

  

The Study Cycle: a plan for improving learning: Do you ever study, but then not do well on the exam? Learning and retention improves with a continuous cycle of studying; come learn how! The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

OCTOBER 2014

Is Grad School Right for Me?: Considering grad school? The decision to attend graduate school is huge. This workshop will cover the steps in determining whether graduate school is right for you and some ways to help you prepare for the application process. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, October 6th  at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, October 7th at 3pm

  

Mindfulness: Learning to focus our attention allows us to reduce stress and live more fully. Join us for an introduction to Mindful Meditation. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, October 8th at Common Hour

•         Thursday, October 9th at 3:30pm

  

Online Professional Image: What is your online image? Is it professional? It is important to consider your use of social media as you move from college to career. This workshop will examine how to evaluate and change your online image for the work place. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, October 13th at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, October 14th at 3pm

  

Why You Need an Internship: An internship provides you with practical work experience in your chosen field and will better prepare you for the professional job search. This workshop will help you explore your opportunities and discuss the benefits of an internship and other experiential education. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, October 20th  at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, October 21st at 3pm

  

Reduce Your Stress!:  Do you feel stressed out? Overwhelmed with living? Learn how mindfulness is a way to cope with the stresses of everyday life and improve satisfaction. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, October 22nd at Common Hour

•         Thursday, October 23rd at 3:30pm

  

Choosing a Major/Career: Need help choosing a major or career? This workshop will cover steps in determining a major or career and how Career Services can help throughout the process.   The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on:

•         Monday, October 27th at Common Hour

•         Tuesday, October 28th at 3pm

Preparing for Finals: Hopefully, you've prepared all semester and most of your work is already done. If not, this workshop will provide some last minute suggestions for final exam preparation. The workshop will meet in the Administration Building, Room 215 on

•         Wednesday, November 19th at Common Hour

•         Thursday, November 20th at 3:30pm
