Faculty and Staff Resources for Student Assistance

Responding to Students Needing Assistance

You are in a unique position to help students in distress. Students frequently view their instructors as mentors and  students may seek you out for assistance with a crisis situation or simple adjustment difficulties. You may also observe students experiencing learning difficulties, interpersonal conflicts or psychological problems. Your guidance is valuable and may make a difference for the student.

While you may not be the person to provide intervention in all situations, you are in an excellent position to increase the probability that the student seeks out services. When the assistance needed goes beyond your role as teacher or mentor, students can be helped at the Student Development & Counseling Center either through short-term counseling or connection to a variety of on-campus and off-campus resources.
