Finding and Borrowing Materials

Finding Materials in the Library

Searching the traditional online catalog, e-Library is available as well as the new DISCOVERY product. DISCOVERY combines the catalog with results from databases and journals. Users can narrow down results using limiters in DISCOVERY as well as find citations to materials not owned by the Library.

Articles, Journals, and Databases
Online journals and databases are available to all users while on-campus. Off-campus access is available to current faculty and students by using your user ID and pin to authenticate. Your user ID is the number located on your LSUS ID card. Your pin is your four digit birth month and date (MODA). If you need assistance retrieving your user ID number or pin, pleases contact the Circulation Desk at 797-5225.

if you need assistance with finding materials, please contact the Reference department at 797-5068 or email

Borrowing Materials From Other Libraries

Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
The Library provides access to materials not available in its collection by offering Interlibrary Loan services through ILLiad. Material is requested from other member network libraries. The Library makes every effort to send requests to libraries that do not charge for loans or copies. Occasionally, the Library is unable to obtain an item except from an institution that charges for loans. Payment for these fees is the responsibility of the requestor. First-time users must register before submitting requests. For more information, visit the Library's Interlibrary Loan information page.

LALINC offers a way for faculty and staff of Louisiana colleges and universities to borrow materials from academic libraries other than their own. Active LSUS Faculty in good standing with the Library may go to the Library Circulation Desk and request a LALINC card, which can be presented to another Louisiana academic library for borrowing privileges. Policies differ from library to library, and the lending library has the option to honor the LALINC card based upon the status (undergraduate, graduate, faculty or staff) of the cardholder. For more information on the LALINC card including a list of LALINC institutions, please visit the LALINC page.

This catalog features the records of over 10,000 libraries around the world. Find out the closet library that has a particular item or search the catalog to see what is available on a particular subject. Most items found here can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
