15th Annual LSUS Alumni/Capital One Pilots Golf Classic Set for 2013
The 2013 LSUS Alumni Association Capital One Pilots Golf Classic has been set for Friday, May 3, the first Friday in May at The Golf Club at StoneBridge in Bossier City. To date the Classic has raised more than $210,000 for scholarships, programs, projects and services that benefit LSUS. In May of 2012, alumni, staff, faculty and student volunteers hosted 130 players in an 11:00 a.m. "shotgun" start at Olde Oaks Golf Club. The tournament raised $18,000. For more information, click on "Golf Tournament."
RiverBend Revue Silent Auction - April 24, 2013 - Horseshoe Riverdome
RiverBend Revue is the LSUS Foundation's annual black-tie-optional gala which honors the Pilot(s) of the Year. This year A Night On Broadway will recognize LSUS alumnae and Foundation members Marcia Calhoun (BGS 2000) and Edie Williams (BGS 1988). The LSUS Alumni Association hosts a Silent Auction as part of RiverBend Revue. To volunteer or donate, call the Alumni Office at 318-797-5190. The Alumni Auction Team secures donations and manages the auction each year. They have raised more than $62,000 in the event's four-year history.
Alumni Association Annual Meeting
The Alumni Association holds one "general membership" meeting per year, the Annual Meeting, usually in late May or early June of the current fiscal year.
The Distinguished Alumni Award winner, Circle of Excellence Award winners and Loyalty Award Winners are recognized. The event also includes gifts for Alumni Board Directors who are retiring from service, welcoming incoming Officers and Directors, a brief business meeting, remarks from LSUS students or recent graduates, a buffet dinner, and door prizes. The evening offers an excellent opportunity for fellowship and networking. Dues-paying Association members receive invitations and other alumni are welcome for a per-person fee. In 2012, East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport provided a beautiful venue. Dr. William Jenkins, Interim President of the LSU System, and Interim Chancellor of LSU, traveled to Shreveport to address the crowd and to thank them for their loyalty and service to LSUS and the LSU System. Dr. Jenkins also discussed the LSUS Commitment Plan from the LSU System and the new degrees that coming to LSUS. Three individuals were honored with the Loyalty Award which is presented to retirees who have contributed significantly to LSUS - Dr. Vince Marsala, Chancellor; his wife, Carol Ann Marsala; and Jackie Reed, former Assistant to the Chancellor.
Commencement Receptions
The Alumni Association hosts a reception for graduates, faculty and alumni before the Fall and Spring Commencement Services. Alumni Board Directors and other alumni serve as volunteers.
The Association Board of Directors meets at least three times during the year in addition to the Annual Meeting. Directors also serve on committees which meet separately, and manage various events and projects for the University.
