Admission Information

First Time Freshmen Adult 25 years of age and older
A first time freshman who is aged 25 years and older is not required to meet the Board of Regents minimum admissions criteria for first-time freshmen. However, if a student has completed a GED or graduated from high school, he or she must take the University’s placement tests in mathematics and English and must have high school transcripts sent to the Admissions and Records Office. If a student has not completed a GED or graduated from high school, he or she must provide satisfactory evidence of a composite score of 18 on the ACT or a satisfactory score on another national examination such as the SAT together with proof of relevant education, training and experience.

Alternate Admission
Applicants who do not meet these requirements may do one of the following:

  • Retake the ACT and submit a set of scores.
  • Enroll in a community college or other preparatory program in order to transfer later to LSUS. (Information regarding articulation agreements between LSUS and area community colleges is available on the Board of Regents website: www.regents.state.la.us under Louisiana Post secondary Education Statewide Student Transfer Guide and Articulation System.)

Admission Exceptions
Students who do not meet the admissions criteria listed above may be considered for a limited number of admission exceptions. The Admissions and Records Office will notify students who qualify for these exceptions.

Provisional Admission
Until all final official transcript(s) is received and evaluated, the applicant is considered to be provisionally admitted. Full admission will not be granted until the final transcript has been received and evaluated. The University may grant provisional admission until the fourteenth day of a fall or spring term or the seventh day of the summer term. Students whose records are not complete by these deadlines will have their registrations canceled.
