11/13/06
Dr. Wolfgang Hinck, an assistant professor of management/marketing, has been named the first professor designate of the LSUS Alumni Association Vincent J. Marsala Professorship in Teaching Excellence.
“The LSUS Alumni Association is very proud that we were able to recognize Dr. Marsala’s contributions to the university and the community over the past 40 years,” said Randy Brown, president of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. “He continues to be a champion of excellence in teaching and service to students. Those same qualities characterize Dr. Wolfgang Hinck, making him a most appropriate first recipient of this professorship.”
The Marsala Professorship is awarded for a two-year period to a full-time member of the LSUS faculty who has fewer than 10 years of service, with or without tenure. The professor designate may hold neither an administrative appointment at or above the level of department chair nor another endowed chair or professorship. The recipient must also demonstrate evidence of innovative teaching and have received recognition as an effective instructor through evaluations and assessment by students, peers and administration.
“I am, of course, honored that the Alumni Association established this professorship in my name,” LSUS Chancellor Vincent Marsala said. “I am also delighted that Dr. Wolfgang Hinck has been selected as its first professor designate. He is an outstanding young member of our faculty and epitomizes the teaching excellence the professorship is designed to recognize.”
Hinck has been a member of the LSUS faculty since 2002, coming to the local university’s campus from the University of Texas-Pan American, where he taught and completed requirements for a Ph.D. degree. Since coming to LSUS, he has enriched student experiences with “field trips” to Germany and Mexico. A native of Germany, Hinck facilitates annual student exchanges in cooperation with colleagues at a German university. German students visit the LSUS campus in the winter and Hinck takes LSUS students to Germany in the late spring.
Hinck was named 2005-06 Professor of the Year by the LSUS Student Government Association. |
