LSUS to host Presidential Conference on Madisons
09/07/06

A community forum with 50 scholars from colleges and universities across the United States and abroad will gather at LSUS for its triennial award-winning Presidential Conference Series next month. This year’s conference is devoted to “James and Dolley Madison: Life, Times and Legacy.”

Madison’s role as “the father of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights,” America’s greatest political theorist (Federalist Papers), and the fourth president of the U.S. will be covered, as well as Dolley’s role as First Lady. Among the many presentations will be a stage portrayal of Madison, three biographers of First Ladies and a number of sessions dealing with constitutional and institutional issues. Many of the presentations will be comparative case studies of presidents and first ladies. A publishers’ book display will also be featured.

The forum will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, and run through noon on Saturday, Oct. 21. It will be held in the Louisiana Room on the second floor of the LSUS University Center. All sessions are free and open to the public.

The forum will be sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH), the Lincoln Forum, Pi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honor Society), the International Lincoln Center for American Studies (LSUS), and the LSUS Student Activities Board.
