‘Endowed Pilot Scholarships’
09/07/06
The LSUS Foundation Board of Directors has earmarked $80,000 to establish eight new “Endowed Pilot Scholarships” in honor of the recipients of the annual LSUS Pilot(s) of the Year award. The scholarships are being established with initial $10,000 endowments from Foundation Unrestricted Funds.
The announcement was made Wednesday evening (Sept. 6) at the annual RiverBend Revue black tie gala fundraiser at the Horseshoe Riverdome. The Rev. J. Frederick and Sybil T. Patten were honored as the 2006 Pilots of the Year. The announcement establishing the “Fred and Sybil Patten Endowed Pilots Scholarship” and seven other Endowed Pilot Scholarships was a surprise to all the honorees.
The other seven Endowed Pilot Scholarships honor Dr. Vincent and Carol Ann Marsala, James K. and Margaret Elrod, Norman and Peggy Kinsey, Joe and Abby Averett, Virginia K. Shehee, George A. Khoury Jr. and Leonard and Mary Anne Selber. Each of the honorees will have the opportunity to help establish the criteria for the scholarship named for them.
LSUS Foundation Board President Bruce Simon said the board voted to establish an Endowed Pilot Scholarship for each future Pilot of the Year, as well.
