| Three from Magnet High win LSUS
India Studies contest

Three Caddo Parish Magnet High School students are the winners
of an essay contest sponsored by the LSUS India Studies program,
in cooperation with Caddo Parish Schools.
The topic for the maximum 1,000-word essay contest, which was
open to all Caddo Parish high school students, was “Comparing
Democracy in U.S. and India: Two-Party vs. Multi-Party Democracy.”
Monika Kumar, a May graduate and Louisiana Student of the Year,
received first place; Matthew Brandeburg, who will be a sophomore
in the fall, was second, and the third place went to Michael
Kovalsky, a May graduate.
The students will receive cash prizes of $150, $100 and $50
respectively in an Aug. 19 awards ceremony on the LSUS campus.
