LSUS graduates 272 at spring commencement

LSUS graduated 272 students at its spring commencement exercises Wednesday evening at CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. Graduate degrees were earned by 64 students and 208 students were awarded undergraduate degrees.

Of the university’s four academic units, the College of Liberal Arts had the most graduates with 87, followed by the College of Education and Human Development with 86, the College of Business Administration with 65 and the College of Sciences with 34.

Reed Dickens, a 2000 graduate of LSUS and a former assistant White House press secretary under President George W. Bush, delivered commencement address and received the LSUS Alumni Association’s 2006 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Dickens is president and founder of Outside Eyes, a Newport Beach, Calif., based public relations strategy and crisis management consulting firm.

Nikki Jo Mora, Grace L. Nickels and Daniel T. Shockley were honored for completing requirements for their undergraduate degrees with 4.0 cumulative grade-point averages. Three other summa cum laude graduates are Kimberly Serrentah Gandy, Michael Alan Marino and Sanela Tomic. Summa cum graduates earned cumulative GPAs of 3.90 to 4.0.

These 14 students graduated magna cum laude (3.70 to 3.89 GPA): Benjamin Carver, Laura Elaine Deaton, Cynthia Barras Deck, Kelsey Victoria Everest, Kristen Michelle Hergenrader, Misty Suzanne Hutchins, Mark A. Hux, Marilyn Champagne LeBlanc, Monica Rose Pels, Smink Sangsura, Brittany Skillern, William A. Stampley IV, Melissa Lynn Thomas and Angela Kay Turley.

Another 22 students were granted their degrees cum laude (3.50 to 3.69 GPA).
