01/12/06
Dr. Neil deGrasse
Tyson, a noted astrophysicist, author and director of the Hayden
Planetarium
in New York City, will discuss “The
Cosmic Connection” in the LSUS University Center Theater
at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9. The presentation is free and open
to the public.
Tyson, who
is also the host of the PBS Origins series and a frequent guest
on NBC’s Today show, will be the guest of the LSUS
College of Sciences when he delivers his multi-media presentation,
which he says is “a celebration of our place in the universe.” He
will be available after the presentation for a book signing in
the University Center hosted by Barnes and Noble. Several of Tyson’s
books will be available for sale, including The Sky Is Not the
Limit: Adventures of an Urban Astrophysicist and Origins: Fourteen
Billion Years of Cosmic History.
On Friday,
Feb. 10, Tyson will talk with students and teachers from Caddo
and Bossier
Parishes at Sci-Port Discovery Center on
the Shreveport Riverfront. The students were selected by their
achievements in science fairs at their schools. After their discussion
with Tyson, the students will participate in “cool” space
activities led by Sci-Port and LSUS personnel.
The events are presented through the support of AEP SWEPCO; the
Shreveport Bossier Community Foundation Kinsey Family Fund; the
George Khoury Foundation, and Bobbie Hicks.
