| TeachLSUS informational session
set for Thursday
01/12/06
An informational
meeting concerning the TeachLSUS program will be held in the
LSUS University
Center’s Caddo-Bossier Room
from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 19). The priority application
deadline for coursework beginning this summer is Feb. 1 and the
final application deadline is March 31.
LSUS launched
the aggressive recruitment campaign in November to attract professionals
in
other career fields into the teaching
profession and prepare candidates for fulfilling careers in the
classroom. The TeachLSUS alternative certification program is designed
for individuals who do not have a background in education but have
a bachelor’s degree and a 2.5 overall undergraduate GPA.
Participants
selected for the TeachLSUS program can pursue certification in
mild/moderate
special education, elementary education or secondary
education. Once accepted into the TeachLSUS program, candidates
are eligible to be hired as full-time classroom teachers, earning
a starting teacher’s salary and benefits, while pursuing
certification. Throughout the program, participants will have access
to a network of ongoing support from the LSUS faculty to help promote
student achievement in their classrooms.
Detailed information can be found at www.teachlsus.org or by calling
the TeachLSUS information line at 318-798-4134.
