Center fellowship
09/26/05
Dr. Ronald J. Byrd, professor of kinesiology and health science,
has been selected to receive the 2005 Faculty Research Fellowship
sponsored by the LSUS International Lincoln Center for American
Studies.
Byrd’s winning research proposal, “José Martí—Abraham
Lincoln Perceptions by Contemporary Cubans,” is a continuation
of his research on Cuba and the rest of Central America. His paper
on “Rivera, Kahlo and Trotsky: The Lincoln Perception” has
been accepted on the program at the Association of Third World
Studies conference to be held in late November in the Dominican
Republic. Byrd is one of the most prolific scholars at LSUS, having
received Fulbright fellowships and numerous other research and
teaching awards. He has been a member of the LSUS faculty since
1988.
Designed as
the premiere academic honor at LSUS, the International Lincoln
Center’s award recognizes the research and teaching
achievements of its faculty as well as their contributions in the
development of the Center’s year-round programs: the Abraham
Lincoln Lecture, Washington, D.C. mini-semester, presidential conference
series, and Colonial Williamsburg Summer Teacher Institute.
