with baseball exhibit
06/29/05
Love the ball
game but not the heat? A new exhibit at LSUS Archives and Special
Collections, “A Retrospective of Baseball in
the Shreveport Area (1885-the present),” provides a cool
glimpse at America’s summer pastime.
The exhibit covers baseball in Northwest Louisiana as far back
as 1885, including professional baseball, youth leagues, company
teams and LSUS baseball. Highlights include the 1885 Shreveport
championship team, professional baseball stadiums Gasser/Biedenharn
Park and SPAR stadium, and images from 1952 and 1955 when the Shreveport
Sports won the Texas League Championship.
The
exhibit, located in the atrium on the third floor of the Noel
Memorial
Library
on the LSUS campus, will remain open throughout
the summer. The viewing hours are 8-4:30 Monday–Friday
with extended hours to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Archives and Special Collections at 318-798-4165 or trice@lsus.edu.
