Center expands hours for ‘Farm
Women’ exhibit
05/20/05
“Voices of American Farm Women,” an
exhibit documenting the historic role of women in American agriculture,
is continuing
its run at the Pioneer Heritage Center on the LSUS campus. In response
to higher-than-expected demand, the Center will be open from 9
a.m. to 12 Noon Tuesdays through Saturdays until June 20. The exhibit
may be seen at other times by appointment only.
The ExhibitsUSA
exhibit and the public program will be housed in the Webb & Webb Commissary at the LSUS Pioneer Heritage
Center. Artifacts, photographs and oral histories of local farm
women will be included in the exhibit. The Center consists of historical
structures of vernacular architecture related to the agricultural
heritage of the Red River region. Structures open for viewing while
the exhibit is on display are Caspiana House, an antebellum plantation
cottage and a detached kitchen; Thrasher House, a log dogtrot,
typical of early farm houses in the area; a log blacksmith shop;
the Webb & Webb Commissary, and the Doctor’s Office from
Caspiana Plantation.
Admission to the Center is $2 for adults, $1 for children. For
information and to book special tours of the exhibit, contact Marty

(myoung@lsus.edu) or Dr. Marguerite R. Plummer, director of the
