LSUS student organizations announce
annual awards

The LSUS Student Government Association and Student Organization
Council have announced their annual awards honoring outstanding
students, campus organizations and faculty.
Alfred Barrow,
a junior general studies major, received the SOC’s
Outstanding Student of the Year Award and, along with Temper Stokes,
a sophomore psychology major, the SGA’s Senator of the Year
Award. Dr. Jean Hollenshead, associate professor of psychology,
was named the SOC’s Outstanding Advisor of the Year.
Dr. Cheryl White received the SGA-sponsored Professor of the Year
Award. All registered students are given the opportunity to submit
the name of one faculty member whom they believe is most worthy
of the Professor of the Year title. White is a professor in residence
and development coordinator for the LSUS Institute for Human Services
and Public Policy. She also teaches in the Department of History
and Social Sciences.
Along with
White, faculty members in the “Top 20” in
Professor of the Year balloting were: Richard Arnold, instructor
of criminal justice; Dr. Beverly Burden, associate professor of
biology; Dr. Lisa Burke, associate professor of management; Dr.
Norman Dolch, professor of sociology; Dr. Blake Dunnavent, assistant
professor of history; Rhonda Failey, instructor of psychology;
Kenna Franklin, instructor of sociology; Sharon Green, instructor
of criminal justice; Dr. Wolfgang Hinck, assistant professor of
marketing; Wayne Hogue, instructor of marketing/management; Dr.
Mary Margaret Lusk, assistant professor of psychology; Wanda Moseley,
instructor of mathematics; Dr. Helen Powell, assistant professor
of sociology; Dr. Keitha Rogers, assistant professor of education;
Dr. Helen Taylor, professor of English; Dr. Richard Thompson, associate
professor of biochemistry; Dr. Tim Vines, associate professor of
finance; Dr. Tara Williams-Hart, assistant professor of biological
sciences, and Amy Wren, associate professor of business law.
Baptist Collegiate
Ministry received the SOC’s Outstanding
Student Organization of the Year and Outstanding Campus Service
awards, while two campus organizations – Louisiana Association
of Educators-Student Programs and Phi Eta Sigma – shared
the SOC’s Outstanding Community Service Award.
The SGA’s
Appreciation of Service Award went to Denitra Dennis, a senior
marketing major;
Terrance Neal, a senior accounting
major, and Lacey Spencer, a senior biological sciences major and
SGA president.
Spencer was
also named a recipient of the SGA’s Who’s
Who Award, along with Virginia Blake, Meredith Dupree, Krystal
King and Jessica Phipps, all of whom received BA degrees in elementary
education in December; Kara Burt, a senior elementary education
major; Jacquelyn Harper, a senior biological sciences major, and
Stephanie Johnson, a senior special education major.
