Application
deadline for journalism scholarships is Oct. 15

The
Shreveport Journalism Foundation is seeking applicants for the two
$1,000 scholarships it gives annually in memory of the late veteran
journalists Orland Dodson and Kerry Garland. The deadline for submitting
applications is Friday, Oct. 15.
The
scholarships are available to college students who are majoring
in journalism, public relations or communications and whose family
residence or college is in the following Northwest Louisiana parishes:
Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Jackson, Lincoln,
Natchitoches, Red River or Webster.
Interested
students should submit an application form signed by their faculty
adviser along with a 250-word essay on "Why I Want to Pursue
a Career in Journalism/Public Relations." Applicants must be
college juniors or seniors by December and have a cumulative grade
point average of 2.5 overall and 3.0 in their major. The scholarships
are awarded each year at the Shreveport Journalism Foundation's
annual scholarship dinner in December.

applications, with faculty adviser signatures, are due to John Lee,

LA 71129, no later than Oct. 15.
