| Kinsey,
Bean, Woods honored
at LSUS Foundation dinner
04/25/04
Three
long-time community leaders were honored at the LSUS Foundation’s
second annual President’s Dinner Tuesday (April 20).
LSUS
Chancellor Vincent Marsala presented the Chancellor’s Distinguished
Fellow Award to Norman Kinsey, and foundation President James K.
Elrod, CEO of Willis-Knighton Health System, presented the President’s
Distinguished Service Award to Mike Woods and former state Sen.
Ron Bean.
“It
is rare when one individual combines the twin qualities of business
achievement and civic generosity with genuine and sincere modesty
about both,” Marsala said of Kinsey, adding that Kinsey’s
is a “legacy of outstanding business success.”
In
presenting the leadership award to Bean, Elrod cited the former
state senator’s outstanding service to his community and to
the state, and for his unfailing support of LSUS.
Woods,
Elrod said, is committed to improving education, especially higher
education in Louisiana, “to good government, to his family
and to his church.” An LSUS alumnus, Woods committed to chair
the annual RiverBend Revue Community Steering Committee. RiverBend
Revue, LSUS’ high-profile, premiere fund-raising event, has
grown from a $40,000 event to one that raised $100,000 last year.
Woods,
a Shreveport oilman and attorney, is vice president of the LSUS
Foundation and chairman of the University of Louisiana System Board
of Supervisors. He is also a member of the state Republican Central
Committee and was a Louisiana elector in the 2000 Electoral College.
