LSUS
freshman Derrick Johnson, of St. Louis, set all three junior national
weightlifting records in the 62 kg category last weekend at Indiana
University and won the Collegiate National Weightlifting Championships.
Johnson set both the collegiate and national junior records in the
snatch (112.5 kg), clean & jerk (138 kg) and total (250). In
setting those records, he broke his own national junior records
in the snatch and total. He also won the Age 23 & Under Division.
Monica
Davis, also an LSUS freshman, took third place in the 75+ kg category
at the collegiate event in the snatch (77.5 kg), clean & jerk
(92.5 kg) and total (170 kg). Davis attended Booker T. Washington
High School in Shreveport.
Johnson
has had an impressive winter and spring, claiming five USA national
titles in as many months. In addition to the two collegiate titles
last weekend, he won the junior national championship in February
and the national championship in mid-March. Last December, he won
the American Open, a competition LSUS will host next December. Johnson
was also the top junior lifter at the Arnold Classic last month.
