| Two
LSUS education programs nationally recognized
01/23/04
Two
degree programs in the LSUS College of Education and Human Development
have been “Nationally Recognized” by National Council
Accreditation of Teacher Education because of positive evaluations
from their respective boards of approval.
The
LSUS Specialist in School Psychology program was granted full approval
by the Program Approval Board of the National Association of School
Psychologists (NASP). The LSUS bachelor’s degree program in
K-12 mild/moderate special education received a “decision
letter” from the Council for Exceptional Children confirming
the national recognition.
The
Specialist in School Psychology degree program was evaluated by
at least two reviewers with training in the application of NASP
Standards for Training and Field Placement Programs in School Psychology.
The board’s full approval was granted for 2004-06. With the
NASP full approval, students who graduate from the program are automatically
eligible for the National Certificate in School Psychology, pending
the attainment of a passing score on the Praxis II Examination in
School Psychology and documentation of an internship consistent
with NASP standards.
The
special education degree program met all of the Council for Exceptional
Children’s 10 content standards, nine assessment system standards
and three field and clinical practice standards, and was recognized
as a comprehensive program that provides students with appropriate
content and experiences.
