01/15/04
The
LSUS American Humanics program was awarded the 2003-04 Outstanding
Public Relations/Community Awareness Award Jan. 4 at the American
Humanics Management Institute in Kansas City, Mo. The LSUS program
won the same award in 1998-99 and 2001-02.
The
award was one of only four presented at the conference, which was
attended by representatives from 82 colleges and universities nationwide.
Accepting a plaque and $1,000 for the honor at the conference’s
closing banquet were Dr. Norman A. Dolch, LSUS professor of sociology
and director of the LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public
Policy, and Rachel Davis, president of the LSUS American Humanics
Student Association.
The
LSUS American Humanics program, established in 1995, certifies college
graduates to work in youth and human service fields. It currently
has 55 students and many alumni.
The
program was recognized for its ability to raise awareness of American
Humanics both in the community and on campus and for its public
relations skills. The program is responsible for the semi-annual
LSUS Volunteer Fair, the annual LSUS United Way campaign, and an
annual Nonprofit Colloquium Series. It also co-hosts the annual
RiverBend Revue and participates in field trips, service projects,
retreats, and campus events.
